This project to create a poster for the 27th Annual Croquet Ball for the Penfield Children’s center called for an imaginative and hopeful poster to

I first made fourteen thumbnails exploring several themes that could be appealing for both adults and children. I wanted a whimsical feel to connect to the cause to help children, but wanted a level of detail and make it interesting for adults to look at. I explored themes of fantasy, animal scenes, and crowded scenes. Two ideas were chose to develop further into a rough sketch phase: Animals playing jazz and a grand croquet theater.

The rough sketches explored those ideas further. I figured out the color palette, which was a mix of primary colors to create unity and a sense of warmth. I also explored text placement.

The illustration of animals playing jazz was chosen to finalize. I inked the animals by hand and colored it digitally. I incorporated scans of acrylic paint to add texture to the piece.
